Grants

Repair and energy grants

Within an approved authorization in the State Budget, repair and energy grants can be made by The Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland for improvements in the condition and quality of individual apartments and apartment buildings.

Housing repairs for the elderly and the disabled

Grants can be made on social grounds for repairs to housing used by elderly people and the disabled, and can cover up to 40% of the approved repair costs. In exceptional cases, grants can cover up to 70% of the costs if an old or disabled person would otherwise have to move out permanently because of obstacles to movement or because they could not be provided with the social and health services they need in the existing facilities. War veterans can in certain cases be given up to 30% extra grant. Grant applications are submited to the municipality.

Lift construction and repair; removal of obstacles to movement.

Grants can be made for the construction of a lift or lifts in an apartment building, for lift conversion to eliminate obstacles to movement, and for other repairs to make access to the building, apartments in it or other facilities possible for the disabled. The aim is to create obstacle-free access from outside to individual apartments and from apartments to joint facilities. Users of aids such as rollators or wheelchairs should be able to use the lift. The maximum grant is 50% of the approved costs. Grants are made by the Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland.

Eliminating health hazards

A grant can be made for repairs needed to eliminate health hazards or damp damage that suddenly becomes apparent in a residential building or apartment. The necessary repairs must then be extensive and the household applying for the grant must be in acute need for financial help, e.g. would be forced to seek welfare support because of the financial burden of the repair work. The grant is up to 70% of the approved costs. Grants are made by the Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland.

Improving the household water supply system of individual properties

Discretionary grants may be awarded for improving the household water supply of residential buildings in sparsely populated areas. The household water supply system to be implemented must meet the necessary legislative requirements.

Discretionary grants are awarded on social grounds and will be a maximum of 35% of the expenditure eligible for aid. Grants are awarded by the municipality.

Energy grants

The purpose of the grants is to improve the energy economy of residential buildings. Grants are aimed at reducing both energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases.

Grants are awarded for conducting independent energy audits, for external repair work to as defined in legislation, for improving the ventilation and heating systems, and for implementing renewable energy sources. The grant covers up to 25 % of the approved costs. Grants are awarded by the local authority.
